Permits

Building in Castle Rock: what the Town requires

When you need a permit

The Town of Castle Rock requires a building permit for any work that affects the building, additions, decks, or the electrical, mechanical, heating or plumbing systems. That covers most remodels, new decks, furnaces and air conditioners, water heaters and re-roofs.

Permits are applied for through the Town's eTRAKiT system. Some permit types, including re-roofs, air conditioners, furnaces, water softeners and standard water heaters, may not need a full plan review. Tankless water heaters do.

Amended building codes took effect June 30, 2026, and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code took effect July 1, 2026. Depending on your property's fire intensity rating, re-roofs and some exterior work may have added requirements.
